Microwave Windows

Low dielectric loss materials find application as output windows for high power microwave tubes. The absorption of excessive microwave radiation causes thermal distortion of output windows. High power Gyrotron tubes require complicated cryogenic cooling schemes to be used with standard window materials.

High quality CVD diamond has both the low loss and the thermal conductivity to allow simple water-cooled window assemblies possible for higher frequency, high power applications.
